What You Learn

  • Establish a grounded intuitive practice you can return to every time you pick up the guitar
  • Creative possibilities in DADGAD open tuning through listening, breath, and resonance
  • Included: full workshop replay, tuning guidance, and clear practices & tips to continue on your own

The guitar teaches more than techniques and songs, it teaches us to listen.

If you've been playing long enough, you already know this.
There are moments when something opens up between you and the instrument.
A resonance you didn't plan. A stillness in the space between the notes.

This workshop gives you a way to find those moments with intention.

What We'll Practice Together

We'll retune our guitars into DADGAD and spend three hours exploring what becomes possible when you slow down and truly listen.

The open strings ring and sustain in a way that opens new creative possibilities. New voicings, new harmonic possibilities, a different feeling. Whether DADGAD is new to you or you've been playing with it for years, there is always more to discover.

The tuning is the doorway, not the destination.
In this workshop, you'll be guided through practices that help you:

  • Listen to what the open strings are already giving you, and build from there
  • Let melody and harmony emerge from the tuning itself
  • Feel pulse and rhythm as something in your body, not just your hands
  • Discover your own creative voice inside a single tuning

We'll begin with simple mindfulness practices connecting breath and body to the instrument. Because the guitar is a uniquely intimate instrument, we feel its vibration move through the body when we play.

That intimacy is the foundation of everything we'll do together.

No theory drills. No pressure to perform. Just you, the guitar, and the space to play from a deeper place.

There is a stillness that happens when you slow down and listen to the space between the notes. That's where the real practice begins.

Who This Is For

You already play and practice regularly. But you know there's another layer available to you, one that has less to do with learning more and more to do with listening differently.

You may be returning to the guitar after years of life pulling your attention elsewhere. Or maybe you never stopped, but you're ready for your practice to feel nourishing again, not just productive.

You're a songwriter, improviser, or creative musician who senses there is more music inside the instrument than the habits you usually reach for.

You work with breath, movement, meditation, or sound, and you sense the guitar could become part of that deeper practice. This workshop will meet you there.

This is not a theory class, a performance workshop, or a beginner lesson. It's a guided practice for players who already love the guitar and want to go deeper.

This workshop is built on a single premise: music is a spiritual practice.
And like any practice, it can be learned, refined, and lived.

Everything I Teach, I Practice

I'm Todd Boston. I've spent over 40 years playing guitar and 25 years working professionally as a composer, guitarist, and producer.

I've collaborated with Grammy-winning artists, toured internationally, and produced records with musicians from around the world. My album ONE reached the Billboard Top Ten. I own and operate Spatial Sound Studios, a professional Dolby Atmos facility in Portland, Oregon.

I share that because I want you to know this comes from a lifetime of working with music as a way of life. What I'll share with you is simple enough to enter in one morning, and deep enough to keep unfolding in your playing over time.

"Todd Boston is one of the best and most soulful guitarists drawing breath on the planet today." — Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill Records, Grammy-winning producer
